Meet the breeder

I'm Melissa D., the breeder behind Australian Cattle Cuties and littles located in Saint Albans, ME. We are committed to always responsibly breeding with the best interest of our puppies’ health and longevity at the forefront. Breeder support and a continued effort to enhance the breed are the main objectives of our program. We hope to stay connected to our buyers long after the puppy goes home! Many buyers send pictures of their fur family back to us threw out the years.

Q. & A. with Melissa

  • Why did you start breeding?

I started breeding with my first female blue Australian cattle dog Puca in 2007 when we moved to the countryside in Maine. In 2012 I got my first doxie and fell in love with them as well. After years of debating, we started our doxie program in 2022. We’ve been waiting years to finally announce that our first litter of doxies will be born mid August 2025!!!!
  • What makes your program special?

We strive to breed only the most relaxed Cattle dogs to provide a better pet quality as opposed to the higher energy working lines. Some of my pups do herd cattle so they all can still do the job. most are very content and doing well in just a home setting.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our Dachshund puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our Dachshund puppies have smooth coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Dachshund puppies include sable, piebald, brindle, and dapple. Australian Cattle Dog puppies include red mottled, red speckled, blue speckled, and blue mottled. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Hi! Melissa was so great! She was responsible by asking my history with prior dogs. I never had a purebred Australian cattle and she gave me really wonderful advice that I currently do if it wasn’t for her. She lives in the same town. I have a summer home so it felt like home driving there. The fact she has kids and her dogs are so adaptive to that the puppies are very used to kids which made me more comfortable with my two-year-old. She also supplied a little goodie bag which I’ve never seen before and it felt so welcoming. If I wanted another dog again, I would buy it from her. I love my dog Rocket.

Melissa was so responsive and helpful! The process was quick and simple. At pick up, she spent time talking to us about our puppy and answer any additional questions we had. We couldn’t be happier!

Melissa has been amazing throughout the whole process - from us reaching out to reserve a Heeler puppy all the way through the pick up of our little Juneau. She was great about sending us periodic updates along with photos so we could track our little girls development. Melissa was very responsive with any questions we had and even now that we have our pup she’s continued to check in to see how things are going. This was honestly an amazing experience all around and we highly recommend adopting a puppy from her!

We couldn't be happier with our new family member, Zippy. Melissa is a great breeder who was very informative on the progress of Zippy week by week for the eight weeks she had him. He was very calm on our 5hr drive home. When we got home he is showing his personality and adjusting very well to his new home. If Melissa decides to breed more Blue Hellers I highly recommend you getting them from her.

Melissa so sweet and patient with me, she was willing to answer any and every question I had. She responded really quick to any questions and concerns we had. Definitely recommend her as a 5 star breeder. Moa is doing great and we cant thank Melissa enough for adding another member to our family
