Meet the breeder

I'm Jenna L., the breeder behind Balltown Boxers located in Sherrill, IA. We are a small boxer breeder located in the tri-state area. We have 5 boxers who are our family pets & are also tested + have specific characteristics that we like to see in the breed. Puppies are well socialized - they are with children & adults from birth on and get to play with everyone daily!

Q. & A. with Jenna

  • Why did you start breeding?

Jenna actually thought about buying goats in her early 20s and her dad talked her into getting dogs instead b/c she always loved dogs growing up!! ... Enter our very first boxer, Allie into our lives. Joey came into the picture shortly after and gets all credit for our boxers being the well behaved leash trained beauties that they are. Jenna is the dog cuddler & puppy care expert :D
  • What makes your program special?

We are small. Our dogs are tested, but they are our pets first. They never leave us. We regularly have our "grandma" and "grandpa" dogs hanging out with puppies and we love having the huge age range :D All of our boxers (Pups & Adults) have access to a huge fenced in yard all day, every day. They can run & play together and it is so fun to watch them charge around and play together!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include brindle and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in a kennel on my property.

We had a great experience with Balltown Boxers. Communication was great and the process was very easy. We love our Gus. He has a great personality and is growing like a weed.

My story started out as a loss. Last November my family and my I lost our soul dog he was a boxer and his name was Ziggy we had him for 8 years. It was a sudden devastating loss most profound in my life and trust me I’m not stranger to loss. It didn’t take very long to realize that a home without a boxer just wasn’t a home I wanted. So I got online and started looking around it was winter time in my area so we were looking for litters due in the spring for easier travel. I must have messaged and talked to over 50 people with up coming litters. It was around Christmas time when I connected with Jenna, and I’m pretty sure I knew from the first time chatting with her she would be where my next puppy would come from. She had a litter due around February I think and it just wasn’t the right time for us yet but at the last minute she had one puppy left from that litter we tried to get but the same day he was scooped right up. I talked to Jenna more often from this point on right up till pick up every week or so. She talked to me about why she got into breeding and how it’s not a job or form of making money just about bringing new love from a boxer to families that need it. That her dogs and puppies are family from the very start and always . That was very clear and easy to see from the start. Not to say ill things about others but do research and more research when looking for a new addition to your home there were a-lot of people and things that didn’t sit right with me. My dogs are my family they are not just a thing for me to profit from and that was true for Jenna too. Jenna kept us updated from the hooking up stage to ultrasounds and birth and everything in between and after. Answered any questions and give any advice I asked. Myself and my husband and our family looked over the litter born in April and we had first pick since we were in line before these puppies were even puppies yet. We instantly liked a few others from the litter in fact “Ted” Koda wasn’t even in question on that list at first But as they grew and she sent group photos and videos “Ted” Koda was so different form the rest I just knew he was ment for our family. Jenna sent weekly photos up till pick up and even additional ones and when I asked her to. She sent videos of all his progress and growth and it never felt like we were 7 yes 7 states away. My husband and I planned this trip out to Iowa by car mind you and made the over 2000 mile drive to meet Jenna and pick up Koda. Jenna was amazing and become family to me she is a huge part of my healing journey now. I will understand dogs don’t live forever and the pain from losing Ziggy will always be part of my story now but Koda and Jenna healed me in ways they will never know. Jenna will always be a small but big piece of my story going forward. If you want a new puppy Jenna and her family are over the top the best greatest choice!!! They did an amazing job socializing, potty training and implementing commands plus creat training. Koda sits already and is making great progress on his leash after 12 hours of using one.

We had been looking to add another boxer to our family, which led us to Good Dog. We reached out to several, including Jenna, but she was so responsive to questions and sharing information even though we weren't quite ready when we first made contact. Once we were ready, I reached back out to her, and she was so forthcoming that she answered questions I didn't even knew we had. It was a quick decision for us to choose her, and she sent pictures and videos to keep us in the loop with all the puppies. She was so easy to work with, very responsive to messages and questions, and made me feel like I had known her forever. Picking up our puppy was a surprise for the kids and her and her family were so friendly to all of us. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a boxer.
