Dandelion Farms PDX

Jennifer R.

Breeder of Australian Shepherds

Meet the breeder

I'm Jennifer R., the breeder behind Dandelion Farms PDX located in Portland, OR. Our puppies are raised with love. We hold and cuddle these little guys daily, in a calm and quieting environment, using techniques from ENS to desensitize and socialize their growing brains. Our puppies will go home pre-crate trained and pre-potty trained from the age of 2 1/2 weeks.

Q. & A. with Jennifer

  • Why did you start breeding?

We have raised our daughters along with arabian horses, saint croix sheep, araucana chickens, calico cats and a variety of sheepdogs just west of Portland on our largely fenced five-acre farm. We have been breeding saint croix sheep for years, to enjoy their lovely lambchops and make parchment from their skins for bookbinding. We are new to dog breeding, but are working closely with our mentor, Carey, on facebook at PeacocksPrideAustralianShepherds.
  • What makes your program special?

We appreciate the essential benefits a tail provides for dogs, helping them to express their many emotions, communicate with humans and other canines, and enhance their balance, like a rudder on a ship. Docking tails originated with working aussies who risked cows stepping on their tails, or coming home from herding sheep with tails full of burrs and sticks. Tail docking is illegal in most of the world, where countries have ratified the European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals. So we choose to decline this painful experience of cutting and stitching to eliminate young puppies' tails, in favor of retaining the beautiful furry bloom our pups have been given at birth.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include blue merle and black tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
