I'm Courtney D., the breeder behind Diwasou located in Marianna, FL. Our program is dedicated to preserving the Shiba Inu true to the traditional Japanese standard. Our program is guided by firsthand study in Japan and mentorship from experienced Japanese breeders. We focus on producing healthy, well-balanced puppies with sound temperaments, correct structure, and strong breed type, raised with extensive early socialization and care.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    We got our first Shiba Inu in 2021 after researching the breed and realizing it was the perfect fit for us. That same year, we attended the 2021 AKC National Championship in Orlando, where we met passionate breeders who welcomed and mentored us. Inspired to preserve and improve the breed, we began our program with a co-owned dog and carefully selected imports from Asia. We’re grateful for the guidance we received and are committed to continuing the tradition of ethical, purpose-driven breeding.

  • What makes your program special?

    Our program stands out because we blend deep respect for the AKC and Japanese Shiba Inu standard with modern health practices and hands-on socialization. We prioritize health-tested parents and import carefully chosen bloodlines to maintain strong genetics. Each puppy is raised in a loving, home environment where early socialization, training foundations, and positive human interaction prepare them for confident, balanced lives. We’re dedicated to lifelong support for our families, ensuring every puppy thrives well beyond puppyhood.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include cream, red, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Patellar Luxation

    Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • DNA Disease Panel

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

    What can we say about Courtney. She is a breeder extraordinaire! Knowledgeable, personable, supreme communicator, loving and dedicated to her Shibas - all these describe Courtney.     Courtney was the absolute best in every possible way throughout my experience of getting a puppy. She is very knowledgeable about the breed and is willing to answer any questions you have, whether big or small. She is always very responsive and quick to answer. I love the fact that she is still an available resource even after receiving the puppy. Everything happens for a reason, and I am so lucky and honored to have gotten a puppy from Courtney. I hope to continue to have a correspondence with her and keep her updated as our little pup grows. Courtney herself is very genuine and really cares deeply about her puppies. They are well cared for, raised and socialized. She is also very professional and provided all the proper paperwork including his up to date vaccination record. As for the pup, he is so well behaved and has become comfortable so quickly with us. (Basically potty trained) I've only had him for a couple days, but I can't imagine a life without him.
