Q. & A. with Gabrielle
Why did you start breeding?
My other half has owned boxers his whole life and introduced me to the breed when we got together. Our first dog together was a boxer and she had the perfect disposition. She was smart as a whip and gentle with smaller animals. She picked up on training and fooled everyone into thinking she was a service dog! She isn't. But she behaved just as well. She is the reason we started breeding.
What makes your program special?
It all comes from the heart. Our dogs are our passion. Personally, I don't have children. I have dogs. I care for these animals like they are my blood. We take care with every aspect of raising them, from proper nutrition, to noise stimulation, to training and playing with each other kindly. Dogs deserve more than we can give them, so I try to overdo it every day.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include fawn, brindle, and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

About Mara
Mara Watkins is a sweet tempered girl who still brings plenty of confidence to the table. She’s ready to guard the house but also cuddle up on the couch. She’s a lazy girl, until you pull out the tennis ball. She is incredibly ball driven. She’s smart as a whip and trained so easily.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Good level
East River Boxers reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Boxers.
Cardiac Evaluation
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
