Meet the breeder

I'm Sue H., the breeder behind Hedge Lane Labradors located in Baldwin City, KS. We decided to take our love for these breeds to the next level by breeding our incredible dogs. We hope our puppies bring lots of joy and love into the hearts of their new families!

Q. & A. with Sue

  • Why did you start breeding?

I fell in love with Labradors at an early age. My first job was at a Dog Boarding Kennel in Spring Hill, KS called Big Foot Kennels. It was owned by Tina Murphy, one of the greatest breeders I’ve ever known. I was only 12 years old when I started working at Big Foot Kennels so my Dad would have to drive me there and pick me up, which he never complained about. I would let dogs out to potty, feed them, clean kennels, and of ycourse, scoop lots and lots of poop! I bought my first car with poop scooping money at 14 years old! I remember how proud my Dad was that I was able to save that much money at such an early age. I worked at that kennel off and on for 15 years. Over the years I learned how to clip nails, give shots, and even some obedience training. The most important thing I learned there is that Labs really are a man’s (woman’s) best friend. I wanted Tina’s job! What better business partner to have than one that will always be loyal??
  • What makes your program special?

We think our breeding program is pretty special for a few reason. #1) You won't see our adults locked up in kennels all day. They truly are treated like members of our family and welcomed with open arms to snuggle on the couch. #2) We couldn't be more proud of our foundation boy Nash! He has been super popular among other improvement dilute breeders, so much infact, he has pups sired in New Zealand, Germany, Canada, & Italy!! #3) Our biggest compliment over the years is how easy our pups are to train, especially potty training. This is because we have implemented Volhard Testing & start them very early with a litter box.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Dilute Retriever puppies include silver, charcoal, and champagne. Labrador Retriever puppies include black, chocolate, and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and guardian homes.

Sue was a pleasure to work with. Any questions we had she answered right away. The airlines had issues with getting are sweet girl to us and Sue worked so hard to make it happen. She really cares about what she does and her puppies show it. Our girl has a great temperament and she is beautiful. I would highly recommend Sue and Hedge Lane Labrador’s if you are looking for a new furry family member.
