I'm Carrie G., the breeder behind Heelers and Highlands located in Reed Point, MT. The puppies are born and raised in our home as part of the family. If you are looking for a well-bred, healthy cattle dog from a small Montana family farm look no further. Our breeding pair have proven themselves as compatible ranch hands, helping us herd our small clutch of cows around the farm.

Why did you start breeding?
We have always had an interest in breeding these intelligent, tough and loyal animals. We have had our sire "Goucho" for many years and took time hand selecting the perfect dam for our breeding program. Now that we have Kana, we cannot imagine a better pairing. She has had no complications, enjoys caring for the pups. This is truly a joy for us to be a part of caring for these animals.What makes your program special?
Our focus is on quality, raising only one litter per year to produce healthy capable heelers. From day one, we work to ease future handling. They are handled daily, socialized with kids and other animals. Ready for vet-care and grooming practices (touching ears, mouths, feet, baths). We have exposed them to indoor and outdoor environments.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include red speckled and blue speckled. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Carrie
Carrie has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.
Carrie partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 8 weeks old.

Price
“The price includes the first round of vaccinations, deworming and puppy socialization. Costs associated with travel to new home outside of area are in addition to the price. Deposit required to hold puppy and will be deducted from the final price. My deposits can be transferred to another dog in the litter if it is a better fit.”

Program update on 27 July •Hi everyone. The pups are doing great. They have all opened their eyes and ears and are starting to interact with each other. They all have started walking. We removed the wall between the whelping box and the mommas quarters to give them more room to sprawl and for momma to maneuver for feeding times.

Litter update on 13 July •…I have put all of the puppy profiles up today with their weights. I will weigh again next Sunday to show growth and colors. Now that we have the pup profiles I can add ad hoc pictures and assign new owners to their expected or desired puppy pairing which is fun. We are at five pups already under deposit and we are so blessed. I ask those whose application is accepted and that put down a deposit for their top two favorites. Then we will adjust pairings if needed as we learn personalities and their colors come in trying to get everyone paired with the pup that they want. We are so excited for this litter and all the good homes we are finding!

Program update on 06 July •…Exciting news! Kana had her pups last night from 1:30am to 5:30am this morning. We have 9 pups! There are 6 girls and 3 boys. We will have to wait and see what colors fill in. All heelers are born white like this. We got a few pictures while we refreshed her bedding. All wriggly with closed eyes. All healthy.

Program update on 05 July •…Kana is happy and just a little uncomfortable. She still tries to chase her rabbit at the front door but has shown considerably. The puppies did not arrive yesterday. Look at that round belly! Soon.

Program update on 26 June •…Momma is nesting and looking bigger every day. We built up her whelping box tonight. Although she is due July 4th, she was early to her last due date. As you can see from her colors and conformation, she is looking really good and healthy coming in to this litter. We have calcium and other supplements on stand by for her.

Kana is a good mom. Vigilant keeping close tabs on her pups. She is very loyal and enjoys being a mom. A working dog she gets a little stir crazy indoors with her litter. She is enjoying the outings we take with the pups getting exercise with them daily.

Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
