I'm Stephanie D., the breeder behind Honey and Coal Kennels located in Catlett, VA. Founded by Stephanie, Honey & Coal is built on nearly 3 decades in the Boxer breed and show ring. Litters are rare, intentional pairings selected for health, temperament, structure and adherence to FCI & AKC standards, producing versatile Boxers for show, performance and family.

Why did you start breeding?
Breeding was never something I rushed into. After decades in the Boxer breed and show ring, I developed a clear vision of the Boxer I wanted to preserve and contribute to the breed. I breed infrequently because there are many excellent breeders already. When I do have a litter, it is because I believe the pairing is exceptional and will genuinely enhance the breeding pool.What makes your program special?
Honey and Coal is built around the Boxer standard, not trends. I select for health, structure, temperament and versatility with the goal of producing Boxers capable of succeeding in the show ring, performance and as beloved companions. My puppies are raised by hand, thoughtfully socialized and temperament matched, with lifetime support for every family.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include fawn and brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
Getting a puppy from Stephanie
Stephanie has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.
After buyers complete the application and screening process, Stephanie partners with them to find the best puppy match.
“Our puppies are matched with families based on temperament, lifestyle and experience rather than appearance alone. Families complete a detailed questionnaire followed by a FaceTime or Zoom conversation so I can learn about their home, goals and expectations. I then use my observations of each puppy’s developing personality to help determine the best fit.”
Price
“Puppies are $3,500 with limited AKC registration or $4,500 with full registration. All Honey and Coal puppies require co-ownership. Details are outlined in the purchase contract.”

About Vorka
Vorka is a female Boxer almost 6 years old. Carefully selected as a great representative of her breed, Stephanie decided to make her part of their program. Stephanie has passed Good Dog’s screening process, which involved a review of their breeding practices, environment, and the mental and physical health of their dogs.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
