Meet the breeder

I'm Amanda T., the breeder behind HP Aussie Kennels located in El Dorado Springs, MO. At HP Aussie Kennels, we believe in preserving the breed through quality genetics, conformation, disposition and temperament. We strive to better the breed by producing top quality puppies with impeccable genetics and temperaments that embody everything we want an Aussie to be!

Q. & A. with Amanda

  • Why did you start breeding?

I was ten years old when my father let me breed my first Australian shepherd female. I took a love of showing horses and working cows, with some of the best working dogs in the breed, to expanding my horizons and focusing on genetics, temperament, structure, and mind to further preserve the amazing qualities of the Australian Shepherd, no matter if they are a working, show, or pet dog.
  • What makes your program special?

My breeding program is special in that I am a single mother, raising a wonderful daughter, and we run this breeding program together. We show together, whelp pups together, train our dogs together, and I get to share my passion for the breed with her and with our owners. Our owners become part of our family for life when they get an HP Aussie!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red & white, black & white, red merle, blue merle, black tri-color, and red tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

We are very grateful to have met Amanda via GoodDog! We recently lost a very precious Aussie to an unexpected illness. His sister and litter mates was beside herself, and we knew she needed to have a companion. I wasn't so sure I could have another dog as soon as I decided to, but I did it for my precious Ursula, as my previous breeder recommended her having a companion. At first I thought I wanted a puppy, and then I ran across Colson. He was six months old, so still technically a puppy. But he had such personality. I love black tri Aussies, especially their cute brown little eyebrows. Amanda walked me through the process and made me very comfortable having a video call via the phone and letting us watch Colson in action. Amanda was patient knowing our situation and very knowledgeable on the Australian Shepherd breed. We had our sweetheart transported to us via ground by a very nice woman who does this for a living. She was recommended by Amanda. We were so impressed with this woman that Amanda recommended we let her stay the night in our house as it was bad weather here in Minnesota, she was a joy and so good to Colson! Colson and Ursula became bestie right away. A testament to the way Colson was raised. He is our shadow, and tends to our 8 week old grandson, very gentle. He was housebroken, listens to commands, is not a chewer, just amazing for his age. Amanda made it work out seamlessly. We have a new sweetheart in our life and a longterm friendship with Amanda as well. Her puppies are amazing as is she! She is TRUSTWORTHY, HONEST and, DEDICATED to her dogs and prospective buyers. It couldn't have been any easier. Thank you Amanda...We love our Colson Baker Bear 🐻

I found our "Annie" from HP Aussie Kennels and picked her up two weeks ago. Annie has been amazing. HP Aussie Kennels has been an amazing find and Amanda is a fantastic breeder. She kept me in the loop daily from deposit to pick up. She met me on time without issue to deliver Annie. She was organized and prepared. She really knew her stuff. As a professional dog trainer and handler it's easy to tell when you've found quality and high ethics. I couldn't recommend her or HP Aussie Kennels more. It's going to be an amazing journey with our new little girl, Annie. Looking forward to every minute of it, but I will not forget Amanda Thompson or HP Aussie Kennels if I need to find the next perfect fit to our family. Brian
