Meet the breeder

I'm Debra M., the breeder behind Mariani Labrador Retrievers located in Liberty Hill, TX. We breed for standard chocolate, black & yellow, all dogs & puppies are/will be dilute free (DD). Our dogs live & are raised in our home. We hunt & fish, our labs dove hunt & love water, have amazing temperaments, calm and are predictable with their on / off switches and drive. We have 3 females that currently alert on blood sugars which helps my husband and I both tremendously as we are both diabetic.

Q. & A. with Debra

  • Why did you start breeding?

My father & my Godfather were avid hunters, & my dad was also a game warden when I was a kid, so we had hunting dogs, Springer Spaniels, Brittany Spaniels, and my Godfather had German Shorthair. My Godfather competed in field trials , shows etc and used us kids to help train the dogs and work them. From that point of my life, on, he and my dad instilled the love of breeding & training dogs.
  • What makes your program special?

We do everything in our power to deliver mentally, genetically & physically healthy puppies to their new home, by DNA & OFA health testing of the dam & sire, & pairings that are equal or better than the other, striving to improve the breed by improving each pairing & litter. Puppies undergo ENS days 1 – 10 & ESI days 3 - go home, & Puppy Culture, & will be started on water & birds before going to their new homes.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black, chocolate, and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

“Includes AKC & UKC Registration, vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, ENS, EIC & Puppy Culture, socialization, introduction to water & dove, introductory Trupanion Pet Insurance & puppy pack. Puppies are sold with AKC Limited Registration and UKC Registration. Full AKC Registration is only available on a co-own basis, where I stay on the registration until the puppy has completed all OFA and DNA health testing at 2 years of age, and received a HIP rating of GOOD/EXCELLENT, and passed patellar, elbow, cardiac, and eye CAERF exams. Also my contract for full AKC registration (breeding rights) requires said puppy will NEVER be bred to a dog that contains/carries (Dd) or is dilute (dd) DNA. If the pup passes OFA testing as required above, I will submit the forms to AKC to revise the registration to ownership to puppy buyer, and remove my name from the registration. This ensures responsible breeding. All deposits are non refundable, unless the puppy's health is negatively impacted while in my care. Debra was kind, informative, easy to work with, and quick to respond! You can tell that this isn’t a job or way to make money for her, it is a passion. We absolutely love our male black lab. He’s highly intelligent, sweet, and has made the perfect addition to our family!

Debra was very responsive to every inquire we had. We had many questions about the various tests run on the parents of the puppies and other tests run on the puppies, and Debra provided detailed information and results about everything. When we picked up our puppy she provided all the needed information (vet visits, information about AKC and UKC registration, feeding, puppy weight chart, and so much more to include toys, blankets from the puppy's mom, dog food, and so much more! Debra followed up weekly with check-in calls. We hope to keep in touch with her as our puppy grows up and matures!
