Meet the breeder

I'm Kristy, the breeder behind OlyInu located in Olympia, WA. We are a three dog operation based out of our home here in the Pacific Northwest! We have very occasional litters that are raised to be healthy, loving, and well socialized companions. Find us on social media to see how our pack does things and for pupdates!

Q. & A. with Kristy

  • Why did you start breeding?

I started my program with a desire to raise a breed I love and adore in a way that makes them less challenging but a wonderful family companions for nearly anyone that’s willing to put in the time, effort and expense involved with raising a puppy. We welcome families and individuals of all lifestyles to apply. While the perfect home has a fully fenced yard, years of Shiba experience, and someone around 24/7 to tend to the new puppy we realize that’s not usually a realistic possibility and don’t decline on such. Our application is a bit longer than some but that’s because we care and want every puppy AND family to thrive in their new relationship. If at any time the relationship is no longer a good fit we are always here for our puppies, no matter how old.
  • What makes your program special?

Our puppies are raised to be loving family pets and we do this by raising them under the Puppy Culture program which was created specifically to help socialize and train puppies in their early formulate stages. In addition to this wonderful curriculum, which details week by week activities and guidance for well balanced puppies, we raise every litter right in the middle of our busy living room/kitchen. The puppies are exposed non stop to kids playing, tv noise, kitchen smells and sounds, regular day to day family life, loud noises and lots of random commotion, new people, car rides for errand trips and more. We have a couple of large dogs that help socialize the puppies and an old cat who’s happy to teach them respect, in a ‘friendly for an old cat’ kind of way. Our litters spend a decent portion of the day just watching us from their puppy pen where they learn to self entertain with the bones, chews, and toys they have access to. We start potty training early using a grass potty pad inside of their whelping box and transition to outside as the weather permits. Kennel training at night starts around 7 weeks so puppies can go home with a good sense of how that all works as well!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Kristy cares a lot about her dogs and placing them in good homes. It shows! I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her pups and all the updates she gave. Very thorough with her communication. So happy with the pup we brought home. Thank you so much for delivering Blossom to us. She has adjusted incredibly well and our family now feels complete.

Olylnu was very responsive and helpful in the weeks leading to pickup. During pick up, they seem to be well prepared, and had a large well cleaned area for the pups to play in. Since getting the puppy home, she seems to be well acclimated to her new surroundings and well socialized.

Kristy is very knowledgeable about the breeding process and walked us through the puppy stages. We were able to follow the puppy's journey on her Instagram. She had a whole binder of the different stages and what to teach the puppies at those certain ages. A week before we picked up our puppy, Finn, she started taking him for drives. When we drove him home, he was calm in our car the whole time and even fell asleep. This is our first puppy so we have done so much research on crate/house training, and we expected 24/7 chaos. He does so well in his crate, sleeps through the night, and is already an expert in letting us know when he needs to go outside. I attribute all these stellar traits to Kristy’s amazing dedication she has to all of her dogs. She also took the time to answer all of our questions and walked us through what to expect during our first few days. Even with all of our research, I think we would have been lost without Kristy’s guidance.
