Meet the breeder

I'm Kristin R., the breeder behind Painted Canvas Farm located in Lamar, MO. Situated in rural southwest Missouri, Painted Canvas Farm is home to the Robertson's - Bryce, Kristin, Caleb, and Clayton. It is a childhood dream turned into a reality. The name, Painted Canvas Farm, came about as we viewed our spectacular surroundings. The tall mature oak trees, gently rolling hills, and freshwater springs are a perfect backdrop to our Australian Cattle Dogs. With the ever-changing seasons, it is truly like looking at a Painted Canvas. We have been ACD lovers for over 30 years and have been breeding quality registered ACDs for over 12 years. Our crew is health tested and bred to work. In addition to our heelers, we also employ livestock guardian dogs. Chuck Norris leads the pack. He is a dual registered CMDR/ARBA Colorado Mountain Dog. We have had no loss to predators with Chuck and his girls at the helm. We do occasionally have a litter of CMDs for sale. We are so blessed to be living this life.

Q. & A. with Kristin

  • Why did you start breeding?

We went looking for a quality working ACDs. It was hard to find in our area at that time. We found two - one for each of our boys. Friends and family wanted what we had. We decided to have "a litter". That was 13 years ago.
  • What makes your program special?

We stand behind our ACDs 100%. We breed for intelligence and conformation with workability and personality. You get a lifetime friend and a great co-worker when you purchase a Painted Canvas Farm dog.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Good level

Painted Canvas Farm reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Australian Cattle Dogs.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), DNA Profile, Primary Lens Luxation (PLL)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
