I'm Libby A., the breeder behind Red Clay Kennels located in Axton, VA. We breed for temperament and strive to preserve our bloodlines, while maintaining the breed standards. We have been breeding for 9 years and truly love the breed and we have an appreciation for their intelligence, loyalty, companionship, as well as their abilities in the field.
Q. & A. with Libby
Why did you start breeding?
My husband grew up breeding alongside his father and grandpa, so he always wanted to continue that legacy. We both are dog lovers and GSP's just fit our lifestyle. While we love to hunt and be outdoors with our dogs and watch them excel in the field, we know that they make equally excellent companions at home. We have such a passion for the breed and upholding the breed standard.
What makes your program special?
We love our dogs and we hope it shows through the care we provide for our pups. What makes Red Clay Kennels special is, the work that we put in to be the best and better our program each year. We are always striving to be better than the year before. Our dogs are family and we know each of them and their personality. We use that information to make sure you get the best fit for your family.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include liver roan, white and liver, liver and white, black roan, and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

We brought home our German Shorthaired Pointer puppy, Luna, from Red Clay Kennels, and we couldn’t be happier with the entire experience. From our very first conversation, Libby was kind, communicative, and clearly dedicated to raising healthy, confident puppies.
Luna came home happy, well-socialized, and curious — you can tell she was raised in a caring, enriching environment. Libby kept us updated throughout the process with photos and information about Luna’s development, which made us feel so connected even before we met her.
We’re so grateful for the love and attention Libby puts into her dogs. Red Clay Kennels produces not only beautiful GSPs but puppies with truly wonderful temperaments. We can’t recommend her enough!

I found the most beautiful GSP from “RCK” Red Clay Kennels. We chose to name him Gunner. Libby the owner made the whole process from, taking phone calls, text messages, answering all of our questions! With me living in Rochester NY and my wife not being able to make the drive down to VA to pick him up. We decided to have him transported up. Libby assured us the transport company was well qualified and we had nothing to worry about even though it was a 10 hour drive. The transport company picked up our boy at 4 AM ( yeah she opened up early) The little guy was here at 1:45 along with his brother who was headed to a home in Massachusetts.
So this should tell anyone who is looking to purchase a GSP they need to look at Red Clay Kennels for their next pup.
Sincerely, Dave Lewis

RCK was phenomenal to work with the entire time. We dealt with a lot from being in the process of buying a home to our other puppy getting sick and through all of the uncertainty they were understanding and responsive! You can tell the puppies are well cared for and in good hands from the first conversation. Our boy has settled in well and is loving his new home, parents, and sister 😊 we renamed him Goose because he’s the silliest dog we’ve ever met!

Libby/RCK were amazing throughout the whole process from answering questions all the way to pick up day! She was willing to accommodate our work schedules to ensure both of us could be there for pick up. Libby would make sure to send us update pictures of the pup we choose to see how he was growing!! I would recommend RCK to anyone looking for a GSP.

When we started looking for a new pup to add to our crew, I knew right away that Libby was the breeder for us. Her communication was clear, concise, and timely, and her knowledge of each puppy was spot-on. From picking out Hutch, to the updates we received along the way, down to the day we picked him up—everything was absolutely flawless. My husband and son drove all the way from Massachusetts to Virginia to get him, and Libby was so accommodating throughout the entire process. It’s clear that she puts so much care, love, and attention into her dogs, and we couldn’t be happier with our experience.
