Jim M.

Breeder of Shiba Inu

Meet the breeder

I'm Jim M., the breeder behind Roki Yama Shibas located in Parker, CO. We are dedicated to breeding top quality shiba inu dogs. We take health, training and loving our pets to the fullest degree.

Q. & A. with Jim

  • Why did you start breeding?

I began breeding and showing Akitas in 1984 until 1989. My career in law enforcement took me away from the dog world for 12 years, but I returned to breeding by way of the Shiba Inu breed. I fell in love with the breed and have become very passionate about the preservation of the breed standard and health.
  • What makes your program special?

Training is a huge part of our program. If a dog is well cared for they will deliver in the ring and around the home. Health standards are also closely followed, with health certifications for our dogs, as well as good diet and exercise. While a dog is in our care, they are treated as part of the family.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Roki Yama Shibas reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Shiba Inu.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Patellar Luxation

Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • Dentition

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
