I'm Dana C., the breeder behind Savvy Boxers Seattle located in Ellensburg, WA. We want our dogs to have the very best opportunities to live a very long, healthy life. We accomplish this through our natural rearing program and will teach you too! We strive to improve their health and longevity by careful breeding, clean, toxin-free living and species appropriate fresh food.
Q. & A. with Dana
Why did you start breeding?
Growing up in Minnesota, my parents showed and bred black brindle Boxers in the 1970's. As a young adult, I got my very first Boxer of my own, was mentored by a local breeder, bred her to a Canadian stud dog and the rest is history! We breed primarily to improve the health and longevity of this breed.
What makes your program special?
Our philosophy on how we raise our dogs for health began in the 1990's after I lost a Boxer to cancer and began researching WHY. At this point, I became passionate to improve the overall health of the breed and mentor my puppy owners to learn about health, health testing, heart issues, cancer and what we can do to better the health of our beloved pets. Our dogs are members of our family and live here in our home until they leave this earth. The Golden Girls can play Grandma to each new generation of puppies!
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include fawn, brindle, and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Lucy
LUCY IS AMAZING!
She is the most fun and intelligent girl! Just a pleasure to be around and spend time with. She is very smart and loves to be given tasks and jobs that make her think and consider her options. Set Lucy up with a challenge and she will outsmart you! Hah Hah!
Our line of Boxers are known for their deep, dark reverse brindle color. This is our signature thing and in my opinion, there is nothing prettier than a dark, dark brindle Boxer. Flashy or Classic, makes no difference. Our dogs are true beauties!
Lucy is the perfect balance of fun energy yet loves to snuggle up and watch TV. Her passion is playing ball in the backyard. You can see her with her favorite blue Chuck-It ball in her mouth! She loves to run, wrestle and play. She is also a show machine and loves the dog show!
Lucy has been fully health tested for the following:
DM
ARVC
SAS
Thyroid
Hips
Elbows
She had an Echocardiogram and passed with flying colors and was holter monitored Jan. 2024 with 0 Singles, 0 Pairs and 0 Runs.

Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Savvy Boxers Seattle reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Boxers.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Standard Veterinary Blood Panel, Brucellosis
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
