Meet the breeder

I'm Amy K., the breeder behind Wildfire Kennels located in Escondido, CA. My goal as a Boston Terrier and Beauceron breeder is to produce highly trainable dogs with unforgettable personalities; all while carefully preserving the breeds health and intended type! I prioritize Health, Temperament, and structure as crucial components in making Ideal Companion and Working Dogs.

Q. & A. with Amy

  • Why did you start breeding?

The short answer: Falling in love with my breeds! The long answer: As a dog trainer I see a desperate need for quality companion dogs. The Boston Terrier has been my lifelong companion and an ideal choice for most pet owners! In my pursuit of Mondioring (an international sport testing obedience, agility, protection skills, and stability) I saw a lack in the beauceron breed for that genre of work.
  • What makes your program special?

As a competitive and professional dog trainer I have vast and unique experience with dogs. This experience gives me HIGH standards and a very raw, unbiased view on temperament evaluation and genetics. In beaucerons specifically: I breed exclusively for success in protection sports, which I see few others doing. That said, I won't exclusively PRODUCE working dogs and encourage companion inquiries!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Boston Terrier puppies include brindle and white, seal brindle and white, and black brindle and white. Beauceron puppies include harlequin and black and rust. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Wildfire Kennels reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Beaucerons.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Spine (OFA, FCI), Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
