Q. & A. with Rhys

  • Why did you start breeding?

I was raised on a large ranch where we raised and trained Arabian and Quarter Horses for performance and work. This led me into the dog world where Cattle Dogs are my true match and I was able to begin my vision for perserving the heritage, temperment, and skills with my own breeding program.
  • What makes your program special?

I've had Cattle Dogs my whole life and feel a tremedous draw to their work ethic, trainability, loyality, and temperment. These dogs and puppies are my passion and work with me on the ranch caring for livestock. I want to improve on the breed and contribute to the greatness within each dog.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include blue speckled, red speckled, red mottled, blue mottled, and blue. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Rhys is truly a puppy whisperer. When we picked our pup up, he already had an amazing foundation. She was then and remains an amazing partner in raising our sweet boy. She has always been responsive to our texts or calls and helpful in trouble shooting as we navigate raising and training a puppy. From a breeding standpoint, our puppy is vibrant, healthy, beautiful (we are partial, but people do stop us everywhere we go to ask us about him) and everything breeding wise she represented he would be. We have brought him back a few times for boarding and training and have texted her with questions and seeking advice along the way. She has always been a supportive partner. Can't recommend her and her beautiful pups enough!

Rhys and Amber both where more then helpful when it came to selecting my pup. The process of getting a new buddy after the loss of my last one took almost a year and half. They knew what I was looking for and helped in selecting King. Moving forward I will be looking to get another from them to start my own breeding program to fill what I feel is a void of pure breed ACD’s in my area.

We are so happy with our emberwick puppy, Josie "Jo"! She is so incredibly smart and fun. Josie has a wonderful off switch with the ability to play outside and rest inside. We are so thankful for the opportunity to own this great puppy. Her herding instincts are showing beautifully and we've begun her herding training so she can work with us on our farm. Josie is a Floki x Crush pup and I am so happy with her, would even buy from this cross again 😍. Rhys and Amber were wonderful in helping choose the perfect puppy for our home! We definitely recommend Emberwick for your ACD puppy! They kept us well informed, communicated amazingly, and were so helpful with puppy information at go home.

The team at Emberwick Ranch was very responsive to our inquiries and clearly knowledgeable about heeler breeding. They were engaged through the entire process, not only concerned with the transaction.

Can’t say enough good things about Emberwick Ranch and the puppies that they bless this world with! After speaking with them about the type of dog I was looking for, they advised me of the perfect breeding pair and then the perfect puppy. I was very hesitate at first due to not being able to visit the ranch in person and picking out the puppy over facetime, but they came through on every promise and had excellent communication! I would 100% recommend Emberwick Ranch for anyone looking for a responsibly breed Australian Cattle Dog…They truly care about their puppies and the homes they are going too. Thank you very much!

I found Emberwick Ranch looking for an ethical breeder for blue heelers through the AKC website. Rhys and Amber really made me feel comfortable about getting a puppy from them. They care about their Heelers. They were extremely welcoming and invited us out. We went to the farm, met a couple of the breeding dads, saw the puppies and picked our girl. We are extremely smitten with Sadie. She is incredibly intelligent, sweet, social, and loyal. Everything we wanted we got working with Rhys and Amber. We will be loyal to them when it’s time for us to get another heeler.
