I'm Tena B., the breeder behind Heartride Labradors located in Rixeyville, VA. We raise typically one litter of Labradors per year. We train and compete with our dogs as a hobby that we find is a rewarding way to enjoy our dogs. We strive to achieve those qualities that make a good companion starting with good health, temperament, and a nurturing environment. All of the puppies are raised in our home. Heartride Labradors is an AKC registered kennel and an AKC Breeder of Merit.

Why did you start breeding?
It began with the right special girl who was beautiful and talented achieving both conformation and performance titles. I strive to follow high standards for producing healthy, happy puppies that will become great family members.
What makes your program special?
A foundation of good stock and a lot of time and work to achieve happy, healthy, well-socialized puppies.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Tena
Tena has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies.
Together, you’ll choose the puppy that’s right for you, stay in touch with regular updates, and plan how to bring your new puppy home.
Price
Puppy prices include a $500 deposit and between $1,500 - $2,000 final payment, before taxes & fees.
“This price includes AKC registration, microchip, first vaccinations, 4 de-wormings, veterinary examination. If Buyer decides against purchase of the puppy following leaving the deposit, the deposit will be returned less $300.
The deposit of $500 will be credited to the purchase amount (estimated to be $2100).
If Seller should change their mind about selling the puppy to the Buyer, then Buyer shall receive their deposit back. This can take place at any time before the puppy is picked up. Seller shall notify the Buyer within 24 hours after the change to inform them of the refund.”

both have a clear understanding of the terms of your
puppy purchase. If Tena offers a contract

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Brucellosis, Dentition
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Centronuclear Myopathy (CNM), D Locus (Dilute) DNA test, Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC), Hereditary Nasal Parakeratosis (HNPK), PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), Retinal Dysplasia/Oculoskeletal Dysplasia 1 (RD OSD)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
