I'm David C., the breeder behind Indian Field Boykins located in Summerville, SC. Our dogs are bred to maintain their original purposes, both for both flushing and retrieving. We breed to produce dogs within the standards of the breed. They are driven to perform in the field but relax at your feet when the working day is done. Our dogs will be loyal to you from the hunt to the hearth!
Q. & A. with David
Why did you start breeding?
It has been absolutely amazing journey, and we are so grateful to be breeding these wonderful dogs. In 1986, we had been married a little more than 4 months when I brought home our first Boykin. When she was 14, we got Boykin #2 from a family friend. We lost her to lymphoma at only 8 years old and I didn’t think my heart could take another loss. And then Sugar came home and started our obsession. We now have 4 in the home.
What makes your program special?
Our program is special because of our dogs. Boykin Spaniels are such a joy, and we find so much fulfillment in raising and preparing them for their loving, forever homes. Our ultimate goal is to produce athletic and well-structured canines that can excel within various performance venues and have the ability to be the greatest family companions. It would be a pleasure for us to send you home with your next Boykin Spaniel puppy!
Where do your breeding dogs live?

Breeder-Reported Testing

Indian Field Boykins reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Boykin Spaniels.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
