I'm Kristen G., the breeder behind Littletrouble Cattle Dogs located in Deer Lodge, TN. We have owned Australian Cattle Dogs since 2001 and have enjoyed having them as loving family members. We have previously been based out of Southern California for the last 20 years. We have now moved to Tennessee but are still in CA every couple of weeks. We are able to help with transporting a pup if you are located in CA.
We own and operate a small beef cattle operation and they help us with all of our daily chores on the farm. We also have some of our own sheep so we can help teach the younger dogs how to herd without the risk of getting hurt on cattle. When its time to relax and go to bed they all sleep inside with us. We strive to produce a dog that adheres to the breed standard and is able to perform the job it was meant to do.
Q. & A. with Kristen
Why did you start breeding?
We got started in breeding because there was a need for a good quality Cattle Dog. We bred for a few years and then neutered all of our dogs and didn't breed for quite a while. Recently, we got into herding and those dogs are all registered. Our only breeding dogs now are all AKC registered and come from champion lines.
What makes your program special?
Our dogs all have a job to do and if they do not excel at herding or working livestock they won't be bred. We also don't breed just because a female comes into heat, we will base breeding on the circumstances of each dog.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Great level
Littletrouble Cattle Dogs reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Australian Cattle Dogs.
Hip Dysplasia , Hip Dysplasia (Preliminary)
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
