Meet the breeder

I'm Abe T., the breeder behind Oakborn Kennels located in Halifax, VA. Our labs are strictly evaluated for the workability and trainability in the field. Additionally, our labs are health tested before breeding. Our focus is to provide people with a lab that can be taken anywhere from events, the field,or at home. We use proven pedigrees and testing to accomplish this.

Q. & A. with Abe

  • Why did you start breeding?

I began doing homework on pedigrees and lineage. The field bred British labs stuck out to me due to their strict evaluation process for field trials. I felt that their trials are closer to a live hunt and gentleman’s Gundog. It became my goal to produce proven and healthy retrievers. I’m fortunate enough to have some awesome mentors around me as well.
  • What makes your program special?

We start with a proven pedigree in the UK. From there, we train our dams for two years in the field and home. During this process we get to see how the dog adapts and succeeds. Additionally, we seek the best sires through titles, pedigree, and on site evaluation. We do everything we can to ensure a healthy and proven litter!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
