Meet the breeder

I'm Amanda W., the breeder behind Whisenhunt Farms located in Nashville, AR. Our main focus for Border Collies is cattle work but have many in companion homes. Our Corgis are primarily companion animals & tested are minimum for DM, VWD1 & EIC. Our dogs are bred with careful selection to improve the specific desired traits to improve the working Border Collie. Each breeding has been selected with work, health, and temperament as the main focus.

Q. & A. with Amanda

  • Why did you start breeding?

We became active in breeding Border Collies with first finding ourselves in need of a working dog. The passion for improving the breed has driven us to also want to share this valuable asset with others and promote the working Border Collie.
  • What makes your program special?

We strive to not only breed dogs that casually herd but that excel in confidence specific to cattle work. Our program is now taking a turn to include traits for sheep work as our personal Sheep flock expands. We are confident enough in our selections to stand behind what we produce with a replacement warranty for hereditary or congenital health.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Dachshund puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our Border Collie puppies include smooth and rough coat varieties. Dachshund puppies include smooth and longhaired coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Border Collie puppies include blue merle, red merle, black, lilac, red, white and red, and slate. Dachshund puppies include piebald, sable, chocolate, chocolate and tan, chocolate and cream, black and cream, black and tan, and dapple. Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppies include red, sable, black and tan, and blue. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in a kennel on my property.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Excellent level

Whisenhunt Farms reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Border Collies.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Early Adult Onset Deafness (EAOD), Trapped Neutrophil Syndrome, Cohen Syndrome (TNS), PawPrint Genetic Panel (Breed Specific), Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), Multiple Drug Sensitivity (MDR1), Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), Sensory Neuropathy, Border Collie Type (SN)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

We found Amanda with Whisenhunt farms through the Good Dog web site. Good Dog made the process so easy. Amanda was very knowledgeable about the breed and gave us some helpful hints about how to take care of our new puppy. She worked with us on arranging the pick up and paying through Good Dog. We are very happy with our new puppy Ginger. She has fit in real well with our family, especially with our rescue dog Jessie. Thank you Good Dog and Amanda.

Nothing but good things to say about Amanda! The process was so easy. She kept me informed as soon as she had a litter born and kept me updated and sent pictures and videos. And she had someone deliver our puppy to us all the way to NC. We are absolutely in love with our girl Mercedes aka Mercy Mae. She is the absolutely sweetest and loves our other two dachshunds!

Amanda was great! Very patient with responding to my concerns about my puppy Jillie. I wanted a puppy with high drive and Jillie is certainly spicy!!! We have been successful in completing various training classes for manners & tricks. Currently working on her CGC title. We are also loving the prettily classes as she is moving very quickly through this type of training. Amanda sure does know what she has bred into her puppies. She is do very easy to work with. I also appreciated Amanda’s willingness to drive half way to my home to deliver Jillie.

So thankful for finding Amanda, we got our baby Corgi at 9 weeks and was perfectly healthy. The process was super easy and fast. Amanda always responded quickly and made us feel secure throughout the process. We live in Arizona and Amanda was kind enough to meet us at her local airport to pick up our puppy. Chester is currently 11 weeks old and healthy, we are super happy and highly recommended Whisenhunt Farms.
