How to spot a puppy scam

There are many forms of fraud and scams online these days. Here are a few red flags to look out for when it comes to transactions with puppy buyers:

  • Buyer makes a payment with a card belonging to someone else
  • Buyer is trying to use multiple credit cards during a transaction
  • Buyer indicates the payment will be made by someone other than themselves who was not part of the application process
  • Buyer refuses to give you their phone number (this could be because they are located in an area different than they shared on their application or outside of the United States)
  • Buyer asks if they can use gift cards or a wire transfer to pay for the puppy

Payments through Good Dog protects breeders from fraud and scams

When you accept payments through Good Dog, we stand behind you 100%. We offer dedicated support and utilize the most stringent security measures possible to protect you, providing you with full protection so you never have to worry about scams, canceled payments, and fraudulent chargebacks.

Good Dog uses best in class security measures to protect our breeders. When you accept a payment on Good Dog, our system flags payments that are unusual. If a payment is flagged, it will be placed in review so our Payment Security team can take a closer look. In the unlikely event that a payment you accept is flagged, (1) it will be indicated as “In Review” on your payments dashboard and (2) we will reach out to you immediately by phone and/or email for more information if we believe there is a potential fraud risk. Please note that this is extremely rare and just because a payment is flagged for review, does not automatically mean it is fraudulent or a scam.
