Good Dog's health test levels

Good Dog has developed a three-level system to distinguish breeding programs based on their health testing practices in our Guide To Health Testing Levels.

The breed-specific system is based on the publicly available information provided by sources, including health registry databases, genetic testing companies, peer reviewed scientific journal articles, national breed club recommendations, guidance from our advisors and other experts, and discussions with breeders.

The three health testing levels are:

🐾 GOOD. Meets our entry level-health testing requirements for the breed

🐾 GREAT. Exceeds our health testing requirements for the breed

🐾 EXCELLENT. Significantly exceeds our health testing requirements for the breed

Health testing badges (Good, Great, or Excellent) at the breeding program level are awarded based on breeders’ self-reported health testing practices for their programs (shown below).

Health testing badges (Good, Great, or Excellent) on the individual breeding dog level (i.e., a program’s sires and dams) are awarded based on health testing verifiable information provided for individual breeding dogs.

This documentation would show up under the Moms and Dads section, when you click on a Mom or Dad.

While all breeders have the option to display health testing results, some breeders may choose not to disclose this information due to privacy concerns. You should always reach out directly to the breeder to learn more about the health of the parents of the litter/dog under consideration.
