Q. & A. with Robin
Why did you start breeding?
My husband and I are both disabled vets. We began breeding and training labs in 1996. We only bred our female every other heat and only bred her for 3 litters. From each litter we kept a pup to perpetuate the line. We donated one pup from each litter to a charitable organization. The pup from the last litter was donated to patriot paws for a veteran returning from Afghanistan. We also had pups go to the Coast Guard in California, search and rescue on the Allegheny River, and 2 of our personal dogs were scheduled to assist with search and recovery in Sabine county when the space shuttle went down. Several of out pups were also mobility assist and/or service dogs. As our disabilities worsened with age we decided to "down size" and after extensive research we settled on the Cavalier King Charles. Our first Cav was trained to become my personal service dog. The only problem we had with Sofie is that she suffered sever pseudo pregnancy issues. We were told to either spay her or let her have a litter. Since no guarantee that either would correct the issue we chose to let her have a litter. She was such a great service dog and good mother we kept the first pup from her first litter as my husbands service dog. Now we have 4 generations of Cavs and extremely pleased with them. Sofie is now going to be 12 on 5/23/2023 and shows no sign of slowing down. In fact she still insists on assisting with any new litter that show up. :)
What makes your program special?
We do not believe in over breeding our pups. Our dogs are family. We raise pups in our home and they are socialized extensively. We begin potty training as soon as they can walk. They are held while we watch t.v. in the evenings and given plenty of love and attention. We currently have 4 generations of cavs and they all assist in raising and training a new litter.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include blenheim and tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
