Brandilyn English Cockers

Donna

Breeder of English Cocker Spaniels

Meet the breeder

I'm Donna, the breeder behind Brandilyn English Cockers located in Ocala, FL. I got my first English Cocker in late 2001. His name was Rocky and he completely changed my life! He is the reason I started this journey into showing and breeding these wonderful dogs. Over the years our breeding program has developed into putting emphasis on temperament, health, conformation per the AKC standard, and intelligence.

Q. & A. with Donna

  • Why did you start breeding?

I bought a companion puppy who turned into a show dog and I was hooked! I started showing my dogs in 2003 and it changed my life.
  • What makes your program special?

I am a firm believer in producing dogs as close to the AKC standard as possible. So they are merry sporting dogs that are compactly built with a powerful gait.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Excellent level

Brandilyn English Cockers reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for English Cocker Spaniels.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Patellar Luxation

Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Familial Nephropathy, Cocker Spaniel Type, PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), Adult Onset Neuropathy (AON)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
