Meet the breeder

I'm Rachelle M., the breeder behind Chrysus Spirit Goldens located in Buckley, WA. We are a small, hands-on kennel with a limited but carefully planned program. Each breeding is designed with two priorities in mind: raising puppies with strong social skills through the Avidog protocol and strengthening the long-term genetic health of the Golden Retriever breed. Our puppies are best suited for active homes that enjoy training, exercise, and including their Golden in everyday family life.

Q. & A. with Rachelle

  • Why did you start breeding?

My love for the breed in started in 2019. My son with special needs required further assistance with managing behaviors and improving his quality of life. As a registered nurse, I dove into all the available research and found that he would benefit having a K9 companion. Further research led us to the Golden Retriever. So I began my search for the perfect dog. It was difficult however to find a well bred puppy at a reasonable cost. Although there are many breeders it was difficult finding one with health tested parents, sound temperaments and at price that wouldn't take away from my child's medical needs. Having been personally impacted by the positive life changes a Golden Retriever can bring to the lives of a child and family I decided it would be one my life time goals to give back to the community. Every family, especially families that have special needs children, deserves a companion of life time.
  • What makes your program special?

We focus on health, temperament, and genetic diversity - not just looks. All of our breeding dogs have OFA certifications (hips, elbows, heart, eyes) and DNA testing. We go beyond standard testing, using UC Davis VGL diversity panels and Embark to make sure each pairing lowers the Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI) and preserves rare genetic lines within the breed. Puppies are raised in our home with daily interaction, following the Avidog program to build confidence, resilience, and socialization from the very beginning. No guardian homes, all of our dogs live here with us, as family members. This means we know them inside and out: their quirks, strengths, and daily temperaments. It ensures every puppy we place comes from dogs whose personalities we personally live with and trust. Our goal is to produce puppies that are not only wonderful family companions, but also part of the solution to preserving the Golden Retriever’s long-term health and vitality.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Everything went well! Rachelle was so helpful, honest, and very much good at connecting us with our fur baby! I only committed to a puppy the more and more Rachelle and I were on the same page. She set us up with way more than I expected from a breeder - I am grateful to have discovered Chrysus!
