I'm Ashley L., the breeder behind Ethical Jacks located in Graham, WA. Our dogs are bred to breed standards, with heavy emphasis on health, conformation, and temperament. All of our dogs live in the house with us, as a family, and know love from the day they're born until they leave our home. We do not, as a matter of principle, dock tails or remove dew claws.
Q. & A. with Ashley
Why did you start breeding?
One of my original Jacks, Piper, was a rescue. My husband and I picked her up from the puppy mill where she had lived her first 6 years. She had to have an emergency hysterectomy as she had been so overbred and had an untreated infection, she had lived outside on a 6'x6' concrete pad her entire life, she had never known love... I told myself that I would do it differently and offer an alternative.
What makes your program special?
We have only ever had 2 litters, currently a third on the way. We keep two breeding females and one male. Our small program means that our animals live as pets within our home and receive all of the love and attention that they deserve. We do genetic testing to ensure the health of our dogs and put their well-being first. We truly love our dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include tri-color, tan and white, and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Lucy, mom
Jack Russell Terrier
About Lucy
Lucy is a female Jack Russell Terrier about 5 years old. Carefully selected as a great representative of her breed, Ashley decided to make her part of their program. Ashley has passed Good Dog’s screening process, which involved a review of their breeding practices, environment, and the mental and physical health of their dogs.
Clementine, mom
Jack Russell Terrier
About Clementine
Clementine is my heart dog. She is brilliant and agile, quick and courageous - everything a Jack should be - but also gentle, quiet, intuitive, and connected. She is the perfect Jack Russell. I have never met a Jack with a better disposition. She consistently places in top ranks for conformation and performs very well, too - both at shows and on the farm.
Archie, dad
Jack Russell Terrier
About Archie
Archie has a wonderful personality and is absolutely handsome! He won puppy champion and best in show last year, has amazing coloring, and we are expecting really great things from his litters!
Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Great level
Ethical Jacks reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Jack Russell Terriers.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
JRTCA Registry, Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
