I'm Lisa H., the breeder behind Glorieta Old Time Scotch Collies located in Glorieta, NM. My program is based upon the desire to produce puppies that have the temperament and working traits of the OTSC land race and contribute to breed preservation. My goal is to raise versatile, well-rounded, socialized, and healthy puppies for my buyers to welcome into their homes and hearts.
Q. & A. with Lisa
Why did you start breeding?
There are fewer than 500 OTSCs registered with the OTSCA, and want to make a contribution by responsibly breeding puppies that will bring genetic variation into the registry and carry the breed forward.
What makes your program special?
My breeding program focuses primarily on health, temperament, and traits, rather than breeding to a strict physical standard. I do genetic testing and research pedigrees to avoid close inbreeding or genetic diseases. My philosophy differs from some other breeders in that I am concerned that the "breed the best to the best" mantra eventually leads to loss of genetic and phenotypic diversity. Instead, I am breeding sound dogs that complement each other in their temperaments, physical traits, athletic ability, and instincts.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
