Meet the breeder

I'm Marilyn M., the breeder behind Marilyn Edwards located in Harahan, LA. I have always been a fan of The Coton de Tulear breed and have been an owner of Coton De Tulear dogs for many years. When I went to get my Coton de Tulear, I discovered that there were no breeders near me. I decided to become a small breeder of Coton De Tulears. I am proud that I am the first AKC Registered Coton Breeder in Louisiana.

Q. & A. with Marilyn

  • Why did you start breeding?

Well I was raised own my grandmother farm. Where she had pigs, goats, chickens, horses, mules, cows, bulls, ducks and 12 dogs. By living on the farm I will help my grandmother everyday with the farm animals as well. I really love wild life and all types of animals. My Dad had gotten my family a dog . So you can say I could not wait to grow up to become a dog breeder.
  • What makes your program special?

Once again I have a true love for dogs and I love taking care of them from feeding, bathing, walking, playing, and I get to make families happy when they are bring their first pet home. It an enjoying job and one of my puppies I had sold to a friend and her very first pet.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Patellar Luxation

Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • Chondrodysplasia/Dwarfism, Neonatal Ataxia, Bandera's Disease, Primary Hyperoxaluria, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), Hyperuricosuria (HUU)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
