I'm Kathy S., the breeder behind SeaIsle Portuguese Water Dogs located in Woodland, CA. We are a small, hobby breeder kennel focused on producing excellent conformation and performance dogs who will also be great pets! Our dogs are bred after careful consideration of the results of health testing, pedigree research, and the strengths and weaknesses of the dogs being considered. Our passion for this breed is poured into every aspect of our program. We truly love our dogs and what we do!
Q. & A. with Kathy
Why did you start breeding?
I originally bred English Cocker Spaniels back in the 1970s. When the breed began to have health issues that were not being researched, I sought another breed where the preservation breeders cared enough to put energy into identifying the inheritance factors of known health problems. The commitment to health factors was a very important component of my choosing Portuguese Water Dogs.
What makes your program special?
I am a preservation breeder of Portuguese Water Dogs. Not only do my dogs compete in conformation to assess their conformance to the breed standard, but they also train and compete in a number of performance areas. Currently, we train and compete in nose work, water work, rally, obedience, and tracking. While many of my dogs have been wonderful show or competition partners, all of them have become excellent family dogs and lifelong friends!
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and brown. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
