I'm the breeder behind Valley Aussies located in Salem, OR. We are a small, family-based program passionate about raising well-loved, healthy, and socialized companions. Our Australian Shepherds and Pomeranians are raised in our homes as part of the family, not kennels. We focus on sound temperaments, health, and structure so each puppy is ready to thrive in their new forever homes.
Q. & A. with Kayla
Why did you start breeding?
I began breeding to share these amazing dogs with others. There’s nothing more rewarding than watching families fall in love while also working to better the breed. In very small batches.
What makes your program special?
Our pups are raised underfoot with kids and other dogs, so they think people are the best thing ever! We use ENS and Puppy Culture, keep tails just as they were born (though Ryah’s bobtail gene will give us adorable nubs), and only remove back dew claws. We also start outside potty training, plus crate and leash practice, giving each pup a fun, confident start in life.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our Australian Shepherd puppies include black, red merle, blue merle, red, black tri-color, and red tri-color. Pomeranian puppies include blue merle, black and tan, and orange sable. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Good level
Valley Aussies reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Australian Shepherds.
Multiple Drug Sensitivity (MDR1), DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
