I'm Leah W., the breeder behind Seaside Shepherds located in Arcadia, FL. We carefully health test and thoughtfully pair our dogs to ensure each puppy has the best start in life—beautiful in both looks and temperament. Our goal is to better the breed while producing puppies who can shine in the show ring and thrive as loyal, loving family companions.
Q. & A. with Leah
Why did you start breeding?
I was born with a love for animals, inspired by my grandmother who bred Arabian horses. Fascinated by genetics and improving breeds, I’ve carried that passion into both horses and dogs—always striving to produce healthy, beautiful, and well-tempered companions.
What makes your program special?
At Seaside Shepherds, every breeding is carefully planned with health, temperament, and structure in mind. All our dogs are health-tested and chosen to better the breed, producing puppies who are as beautiful as they are intelligent. Raised in our home with love and socialization, they’re prepared to excel in the show ring and thrive as loyal family companions.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies have long coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are black and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Great level
Seaside Shepherds reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
