I'm Tracy C., the breeder behind Sutter Bay Retrievers located in Albany, OR. Our puppies are NOT couch potatos, and will enjoy active homes that can keep their minds and bodies engaged. Our litters are multi-purpose, who do well in a variety of homes. It is important to have plans for continued socialization and training classes from the moment puppies come home.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    I have had a love of Goldens for a long time but learned early on what came with a puppy from a breeder who was not responsible. After meeting my husband, I became involved with both Goldens and Labs and learned all that was involved with becoming a responsible breeder. Our goal was and continues to be raising purpose-bred healthy, multi-purpose puppies with excellent temperaments.

  • What makes your program special?

    In an effort to give puppies the best start possible, we are always researching the latest information in breeding and puppy development. One of the most important steps taken was becoming a part of the Avidog community, using science and experience to evolve our breeding program. We are proud to be an Avidog Associate Breeder. I also have assisted many who have fostered rescue litters.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include dark golden and golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Getting a puppy from Tracy

Tracy has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Tracy partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 8 weeks old.

“We do APET testing as close to 8 weeks as possible along with watching traits from all puppies over their weeks of growth and development. Puppies going to hunting homes have specific traits we look for as do potential therapy dogs.”

Price

Puppy prices include a $300 non-refundable deposit and between $2,500 - $2,900 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“A limited number of deposits are taken before whelping. Deposits are only taken once the application is approved and are refundable for California residents only due to recent state law changes. Deposit once puppies are whelped can be applied to a future litter, but are not refundable once puppies have arrived. *For California owners, deposits are refundable*. Pre-breeding deposits are $300.”

Tracy may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.   • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

    Tracy does an amazing job both with raising puppies to be confident family pets as well as answering all questions from potential owners.     We had the best experience working with Tracy to adopt our new puppy, Bruce.     🐾💛 Forever Grateful to Sutter Retrievers! I can’t say enough about Tracy and Tellus at Sutter Bay Retrievers in Oregon! From the very first phone call, Tracy made the whole experience so personal and exciting. Once we put down our deposit for Filson, she gave us 24/7 puppy cam access, weekly Patreon updates with the cutest pics & videos 🐶, and answered every question along the way. For 8 weeks they cared for 19 (!!) puppies—making sure they were healthy, vaccinated, socialized, and ready for their new families. They took the pups on field trips so they’re confident around new people, places, and sounds. Their sleeping and play area was really cool with their creative home made "adventure box" full of items you find around the house to get them used to everyday things. When we brought Filson home, we got a beautiful printed puppy care guide, detailed vaccine/vet schedules, and the peace of mind knowing he had the BEST possible start in life. He was already trained in whistle recalls which was super helpful for off leash. It’s no wonder people travel from all over the country for a Sutter Retriever puppy… Tracy and Tellus are simply THE BEST! 🌟
