Meet the breeder

I'm Alexie H., the breeder behind Three Lakes Labs & WHDs located in Water Valley, NY. We concentrate on improving the genetics and health of the Labrador Retriever and WHD, blended with the ideal temperament. We want to achieve the perfect dog! We are breeders who do everything we can to better the breed and ensure our dogs and puppies are able to get the very most out of life.

Q. & A. with Alexie

  • Why did you start breeding?

When I was young I unknowingly bought my first Labrador from a backyard breeder. She was only 2 years old when she was diagnosed with hip dysplasia. She couldn’t run, play, or hunt anymore. It broke my heart. I wanted to bring healthy well-bred Labradors into the world so that no family would have to suffer the way I did. My passion is health and genetics.
  • What makes your program special?

As a trainer, I start my puppies out young with training! They are introduced to sounds, smells, and textures from day 1 right in our home. I then start obedience training around 5 weeks of age. By 7 weeks they are introduced to the idea of housebreaking and the kennel and sleeping in the kennel at night so that my families have success with kennel training from the day the pups are brought home.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our Dachshund puppies are standard size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our Dachshund puppies have wirehaired coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Dachshund puppies are wild boar. Labrador Retriever puppies include black, chocolate, and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
