How to improve your search result ranking

List a litter and keep it up to date

Breeders with available puppies rank higher in search results, followed by expected and planned litters. To keep potential Good Dog buyers up to date, change your litter status when needed and add more details as your puppies grow, such as their expected go-home date. Plus, Good Dog buyers have the ability to “Favorite” your program, so we can notify them on your behalf when your expected or planned litter is born. Get started listing a litter here.

Share lots of high quality photos

When a buyer searches on Good Dog, they'll see individual available puppies listed first — so be sure to take great photos of each pup! Plus, puppies with photos show up higher in our search results, and are 4x more likely to receive interest from a potential buyer than puppies without photos.

When you’re uploading photos, a good rule of thumb is to add 5+ photos for each pup, and keep them updated each week as puppies grow. Puppies with 5 or more photos are 2x more likely to receive interest from a potential buyer than puppies with only 1 photo. Follow these tips to take great puppy photos

If you aren’t able to take puppy photos quite yet, it’s always a good idea to add photos of the sire and dam of each litter. This way, buyers can picture what their future pup might look like as it grows up.

Add your zip code

Buyers can filter search results by proximity to their zip code if they’re interested in working with a breeder in their local area. That’s why adding your zip code, city, and state information to your profile can have a big impact on how high your program ranks in search results! Remember, your privacy is our priority, and buyers can never see sensitive information like your address.

Share your transportation options

If a buyer is searching for a pup outside their local area, it’s helpful for them to know which transportation options you offer to get their pup home. By adding puppy transportation options to your profile, you’ll rank higher in search results for buyers who are considering these details as they search for a breeder to work with.

Be sure to include all of the pickup and drop off options you offer (like if you’re willing to fly and meet at a buyer’s local airport), and keep this information up to date as you’re able to offer new transport options. Some Good Dog buyers may have questions and will want your advice before finalizing their choice.

Don’t forget that as a Good Dog Breeder, you can access our exclusive discount with Citizenshipper to help you offer transportation and connect with buyers who don’t live locally. You can also always check out our list of recommended transporters if you need help getting your pups safely to their new homes.

Add puppy pricing information

Adding accurate puppy pricing information, and indicating if you require a refundable or non-refundable deposit, helps to set important expectations with potential buyers right off the bat. This ensures that the buyers reaching out to you are as informed as possible – ultimately leading to more successful conversations. You can list all of your pups for the same price, or add a minimum and maximum price range if multiple pups in your litter are priced differently.

More ways to help your program stand out

Give each puppy a unique name

When you list a pup on Good Dog and give them a unique name, like “Luna,” you’re 2x more likely to get interest from potential buyers. A unique name — instead of a name like “Girl 1” — helps your pup make an impression on potential buyers and keep them top of mind while they search on Good Dog.

Share details about puppy traits and personality

Buyers can filter their puppy search based on breed-specific attributes like color and size, so including details about their physical traits can give your pups a great opportunity to stand out. Describing each puppy's personality and temperament helps buyers learn more about your pups and determine if they may be a good fit for them.

Include information about parent dogs

Through our conversations with puppy buyers, we’ve found that they love learning about the parents of each litter, so they can envision what their future pup might be like as it gets older. Be sure to add information (like special accolades!) and photos for all of your sires and dams, so buyers can learn what makes them so special. Doing this can be especially helpful when you have an expected or planned litter and are waiting for some new puppy photos to share.

Become a Preferred Breeder

The Good Dog Preferred Breeder program recognizes Good Breeders for choosing to place their pups on Good Dog. Preferred Breeders receive an exclusive badge that is displayed on your profile, so you can stand out to buyers on their puppy search, and build trust with them right away.

Here's how you can earn your Preferred Breeder badge:

Receive health testing recognition for breeding dogs and pups

We know how much work and care you put into breeding healthy puppies, and we want to make sure Good Dog buyers know it too! You can upload health test results to receive Breeding Dog Badges for your individual sires and dams. These badges help differentiate your program and give buyers more information about the health testing performed on your breeding dogs.

Plus, when you add a litter whose parents have both received Breeding Dog Badges, those pups will automatically receive a special health testing designation which highlights that their parents have verified health testing. This designation will show up in puppy search results and on your Good Breeder profile, and help buyers learn more about your program’s commitment to health testing.

Earn Verified Owner Stories

After a Good Dog buyer completes a payment to you on Good Dog, we’ll automatically invite them to share their experience working with you by submitting a Verified Owner Story. Verified Owner Stories appear on your Good Dog profile and in search results, so you can show off your happily placed pups to potential buyers who are looking to learn more about what it’s like to work with you, and share a glimpse of how your pups are doing in their new homes.
